Rhian Ramos for HTC Smart

Last August 10th, HTC officially launched Rhian Ramos as their official endorser for HTC Smart which was launched April 2010. The event was held at the Dolce Superclub in Quezon City.

HTC Smart is one of the simplest touch screen phones in the market today. All communications with friends/relatives are organized by conversation and not through applications. This means that you need not go to Facebook or Twitter to see their status updates. When you click on your contact in the HTC Smart phone, you’ll be able to see all the previous conversations, call logs, emails, Facebook and Twitter updates. The Samsung Galaxy S also has this feature, which makes everything personalized instead of depending on the individual applications. This phone also has what they call Friend Steam which integrates Facebook and Twitter. You will be able to see your friends updates in one application. You can also update your status with this feature. This one, although, doesn’t have Wifi. The HTC Smart phone costs for Php 12,900. HTC will also be releasing a limited edition HTC Smart – Rhian Ramos phones which will be released by September 2010.

RIP Google Wave

When Google Wave was announced, I was eager to try it out since I see its potential of a great collaboration tool. I gave out invites to friends who are interested to try it out. Anyway, Google will stop the developments of Google Wave as a standalone product. However, Google Wave will be still available until the year ends. Even if it Google Wave is still accessible, Google Wave will just die a slow death. Read more about this announcement from Google.

YouTube’s Upload Limit has been Increased to 15 minutes

YouTube, a popular video-sharing website, has just increased its upload limit to 15 minutes for all users. Prior to this increase, YouTube’s upload limit was only 10 minutes.

With this, YouTube users around the world are asked to upload a 15-minute video and tag it with “yt15minutes”. The video should be uploaded on August 4, 2010 (Wednesday). Some of those videos will be featured on the homepage giving them their own 15 minutes of fame.

I guess you’re wondering why is the upload limit increased only now. This is because they’ve spent a lot of time with the creation of the Content ID.

This Content ID will actually address the copyright infringement issues that have been plaguing YouTube. The Content ID is comprised of the Audio ID and the Video ID. This will let the content owners identify the uploaded videos that are comprised entirely or partially of their content. Then, the content owners will have the option to either make money from them, get statistics on those videos or have them blocked on YouTube.

Say Goodbye to Michael Jackson on Plants vs. Zombies

Plants vs. Zombies is an addicting game wherein your goal is to kill the zombies with plants and never let them enter your house. If ever the zombie reaches inside your house, the zombie will eat your brains. My nephews, as well as my siblings, have been playing PvZ in our desktop PC while I’ve been playing it on my iPhone since the first time I’ve heard of it.

One of the characters in Plants vs. Zombies is the dancing zombie, which have a striking resemblance to the late Michael Jackson. Because of this, a lot of us are referring it as the Michael Jackson zombie. Amongst the dancing zombies, the Michael Jackson zombie is the center of attraction. Surrounding him are his back-up dancers. The dance steps that they’re doing is also similar to the dance steps of Michael Jackson’s hit song “Thriller”.

Because of the striking resemblance, the estate of Michael Jackson has raised concerns about it. Thus, let’s all say bye-bye to Michael Jackson in PvZ.

WordPress: to end support for PHP 4 and MySQL 4

WordPress, one of the top blogging platforms used by Filipino bloggers would stop supporting PHP 4 and MySQL 4 after version 3.1. WordPress 3.1 will be released late 2010. This is a signal for developers to be prepared on updating their plugins. In addition, if you are hosted somewhere that does not support PHP 5 and MySQL 5, better ask your hosting provider if they will switch soon.

WordPress 3.2 will be available in the first half of 2011. The minimum requirements for version 3.2 of WordPress are:

PHP 5.2
MySQL 5.0.15

If your hosting does not meet the minimum requirements, it won’t be updated to WordPress 3.2.

How do I know if my hosting meets the minimum requirements?
You can use the Health Check plugin.

SmartCoach iPhone app: An App for Runners

Joining running events is one of the trends here in the Philippines. Runner’s World just released their iPhone app dubbed as SmartCoach. This iPhone app for runners creates a customized training guide depending on a race distance (i.e. 5km, marathon, etc.).

Features:

Input most recent race time
Weekly and long-term distance goals
training level (maintenance, moderate, hard, very hard)
schedule long runs (day and duration) resulting to their customized plan

The customized plans generated from the app is based from work of Jack Daniels, PhD. According to Mashable, he co-published two equations that relate oxygen consumption to the speed and length of various running performances.

Apple iPad Prices in Hong Kong and Singapore

The Apple iPad were already being sold in some stores here in Manila. There’s one in Rockwell which sells the 32GB iPad with WiFi and 3G. There are also some stores in Greenhills that sells the Apple iPad. Anyway, if you are planning to go to Hong Kong and Singapore anytime soon, or if you have friends who are there that will be coming home soon, it’s a good idea to get the Apple iPad there.
