Cherry Mobile: really cheap phones with dual SIM support

Do you remember the days of having a thick battery on your Nokia phone so that you can use two SIM cards in your phone without removing the battery and replacing the SIM card with the other one? Cherry Mobile is a new player in the local mobile communication industry that provide dual SIM technology at a low price. Cherry Mobile is not actually the first to provide the dual SIM technology in the Philippines in fact, there’s already the existing one which is My Phone.

HTC Magic: Powered by Google Android

Will the HTC Magic be able to conquer the Philippine market? Globe Telecoms announced that it will be free if you get the 7,000-peso postpaid plan (GFlex or GPlan) which I find a bit pricey. It will be available  exclusively under SMART Gold subscription plans by the end of June. It would be interesting to see if other popular mobile phone manufacturers would come out an Android version of their mobile phone models.

Red Mobile: Now Compatible with 2G!

Red Mobile, when it was launched last year, was only working in 3G handsets. Then, they recently announce that Red Mobile is now compatible with 2G handsets. It was not really a good idea for them to just stick with subscribers that can afford to buy 3G handsets.

Filipinos and the rest of the world are excited with the 3.0 software update for the Apple iPhone OS. Here are the features why you should upgrade to iPhone OS 3.0:

  • Spotlight Search
  • Bluetooth Stereo
  • Voice Memos
  • Autofill usernames/passwords for Safari
  • Internet Tethering (connect your iPhone to your laptop to connect to the internet – using your mobile network’s data service)
  • YouTube login
  • Peer-to-Peer games

Acer Tempo Smartphone Series

Acer Smartphones

Acer’s move in joining the Smartphone competition is not really going to compete head-on with their own products. It’s actually more of a complement. All of the smartphones will be running on Windows Mobile 6.1 which I think would be a hindrance to would-be switchers especially if they would prefer the Symbian OS.

Sandbox: Social and Mobile

Sandbox homepage

There’s really nothing much new regarding integrating mobile to social networks. This has been done with microblogging sites such as Twitter and Plurk wherein you send an SMS to update your status. For photo uploads, I remember before I tried uploading a photo to Flickr from my mobile phone using the Shozu app. But what’s good about it is that the social network is localized.
