WordPress: to end support for PHP 4 and MySQL 4

WordPress, one of the top blogging platforms used by Filipino bloggers would stop supporting PHP 4 and MySQL 4 after version 3.1. WordPress 3.1 will be released late 2010. This is a signal for developers to be prepared on updating their plugins. In addition, if you are hosted somewhere that does not support PHP 5 and MySQL 5, better ask your hosting provider if they will switch soon. :)

WordPress 3.2 will be available in the first half of 2011. The minimum requirements for version 3.2 of WordPress are:

  • PHP 5.2
  • MySQL 5.0.15

If your hosting does not meet the minimum requirements, it won’t be updated to WordPress 3.2. :)

How do I know if my hosting meets the minimum requirements?
You can use the Health Check plugin.
