Looks like we got a new mobile broadband internet player. Well, they aren’t actually a new licensee holder of 3G. Sun Cellular is offering unlimited mobile broadband internet for 999 pesos and the nice thing about that one is that the USB modem charges are waived which leaves me to thinking if they will have a lock-in period of 24 months. 3G coverage will only be available in some parts of Metro Manila.
As for the other networks:
Smart
Smart Bro Plug-it Plan 799
- 40 hours free every month
- Initial Payment – P 1,598 (nclusive of 2mos. advance MSF)
This one is not really free at all. Smart offers mobile 3G for 10 pesos for 30 minutes.
Smart BRO Prepaid
- available for PhP 3,800.00 (one time payment) with 5 hours of free internet
- Broadband Internet use is P10 for every 30 minutes
Globe Telecoms
Plan 799
- 40 mobile internet hours
- 2 free WiFi hours
Plan 999
- 60 mobile internet hours
- 3 free WiFi hours
Plan 1499
- 100 mobile internet hours
- unlimited WiFi hours
Prepaid Kit
- USB modem and SIM available for PhP 4,500
- Free 1.5 hrs of mobile internet hours
With this new offering from Sun Cellular, I just hope they’d change the name of the game by improving their 3G coverage first since they have a long way to go to catch up with both Smart and Globe.

Sun Cellular also has a Plan 1999 with speeds up to 1.4Mbps. If they can offer that kind of connection for the whole of Metro Manila, they’d probably get a lot of switchers from DSL and cable as well. (Great site, BTW.)
Hi Ced,
Have you been using their mobile broadband? How was it?
Thanks by the way
Hello Karla.
Nope, haven’t tried their broadband service yet. (Maybe Sun Cellular should give out limited trial accounts to PH bloggers, don’t you think?) Hopefully, they will be successful in shaking the broadband service “tree”, just like what they did with the mobile phone service standards.
@Ced,
Yeah I think they should give trial accounts for testing purposes
I would love to test one (if there would be a chance)
